Certification of electrical equipment, apparatus and lighting fiхtures (LVD & EMC Directive)
The Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/ЕU (Directive LVD) deals with the safety of electrical equipment operating with a nominal voltage between 50 and 1000 V for alternating current and between 75 and 1500 V for direct current.
The Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive 2014/30/EU (Directive EMC) covers all electrical equipment or electronic equipment, which can emit electromagnetic waves, as well as equipment being affected by undue Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) from other apparatus.
The LVD & EMC Directive applies to electrical appliances, electrically operated tools, lighting fiхtures, electrical equipment etc.
Products covered by the Low Voltage Directive shall demonstrate the compliance with the harmonized standards of the European Union.
In accordance with the LVD & EMC Directive, the product shall be submitted to the testing laboratory for carrying out the certification procedure.
The notified body shall issue the CE Certificate to the manufacturer upon receiving positive test results and after examination of documentation.
The manufacturer or its authorized representative are obliged to keep the Technical Documentation File and CE Declaration of Conformity for a period of 10 years after the production of the last product and to provide them to the European Competent Authorities at the first request.
The Technical Documentation File shall include the following information:
– general description of the electrical equipment;
– design documentation, working drawings and schemes;
– description of drawings and explanatory notes to drawings and schemes;
– list of applied harmonized standards;
– test reports and test results.
